Advantages and safety concerns of melamine tableware
Compared to other common types of tableware, melamine tableware excels in several aspects. It is shatter-resistant, heat-resistant, easy to clean, and relatively inexpensive to produce. The surface of melamine tableware is typically smooth and glossy, resembling porcelain; the closer the texture is to ceramic, the better the quality.
However, melamine tableware also presents potential safety hazards, primarily stemming from improper use and inferior products. High temperatures may cause the release of harmful substances, while prolonged contact with acidic foods can accelerate the degradation process. Some low-quality products, in order to reduce costs, use urea-formaldehyde resin instead of melamine resin. Such tableware is particularly prone to releasing formaldehyde and melamine monomers when in contact with acidic or oily foods.
